Vincent Kompany’s fast start as Bayern Munich head coach has reached the 50 Bundesliga wins mark — and the Belgian has done it faster than anybody not named Pep Guardiola.
Vincent Kompany has reached 50 Bundesliga wins in his 64th game in charge. Only Pep Guardiola was quicker to reach this mark (in 61 games)
Considering the circumstances under which Kompany arrived, this is an impressive achievement indeed.
And considering that Kompany was fresh off overseeing a season that ended in relegation for Burnley, the degree of the success he has found at Bayern cannot be understated. Yes, the German record champions retain a pocketbook the likes of which the rest of the Bundesliga cannot match. But the total turnaround, not only in on-field production but in the good feelings that have endured at Säbener Straße since his arrival…these are not to be taken for granted at a club known colloquially as FC Hollywood. Bayern’s used to winning, yes. But winning amid a constant stream of stress, drama, and the churn of coaching changes.
Kompany has brought relentless positive energy and an atypical sense of calm to Bayern. There’s a reason he was described by CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen recently as ‘the eye of the storm’ — as long as the Bavarians stick with Kompany, they can expect to be shielded from the chaos and tumult that might otherwise engulf them.
