Bayern Munich have made a bold move in the summer transfer window, offering Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon a lucrative five-year contract. The Bundesliga champions are keen to bring the versatile winger to the Allianz Arena, but there's one major hurdle: agreeing on a transfer fee with the Magpies.
Newcastle are reportedly holding out for around £80 million for the 25-year-old Englishman, a figure that would make him Bayern's second-most expensive signing in club history. That's a significant jump from the £47.4 million they paid for Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, highlighting just how highly they value Gordon's potential.
According to Christian Falk of CF Bayern Insider, the deal is structured to comply with German regulations, which limit contracts to a maximum of five years—unlike the Premier League, where longer terms are allowed. "Bayern Munich know they'll have to pay a really big transfer fee for Anthony Gordon, so it's best to spread it over the course of a long-term contract," Falk explained. "This also ensures they can keep hold of the Englishman for the foreseeable future."
While Gordon may not yet be on the same level as some of Bayern's current stars, the club's supervisory board, led by Uli Hoeneß, sees adding a top-quality attacker as a critical priority for the upcoming season. Whether they're willing to meet Newcastle's £80 million asking price remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Bayern are serious about landing their man.
For now, all eyes are on the negotiations as the summer window heats up. Will Gordon trade the Premier League for the Bundesliga? Stay tuned.
