Bay FC forward Keira Barry has earned a landmark first senior call-up to the England squad, marking a significant step in her burgeoning career. The 20-year-old, who made the move from Manchester United to the United States in January, gets the nod for the crucial upcoming Women's World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Iceland.
Barry's promotion from the England Under-23s comes as a direct replacement for the injured Freya Godfrey. The London City Lionesses forward has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to a shoulder injury and will remain with her club for treatment.
Manager Sarina Wiegman has also welcomed back Chelsea defender Niamh Charles, who returns following her recovery from a dislocated shoulder. Charles, a key part of England's European Championship-winning squad in Switzerland last year, has recently featured in Chelsea's last three matches, signaling her return to full fitness.
With Charles's inclusion, the squad expands from 23 to 24 players. The group will convene at St George's Park on Tuesday to prepare for a massive fixture at Wembley Stadium against Spain on April 14th. The Lionesses will then travel to face Iceland in Reykjavik on April 18th, aiming to preserve their perfect start to the 2027 World Cup qualifying campaign.
