FC Barcelona's summer transfer plans are taking shape, with the club prioritizing a centre-forward, a winger, and a central defender. But beyond the headline targets, there's a crucial in-house issue that needs addressing: the goalkeeping department.
Currently, the Blaugrana have no fewer than seven shot-stoppers under contract: Joan Garcia, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczesny, Inaki Pena, Diego Kochen, Aron Yaakobishvili, and Ander Astralaga. Yet, despite this crowded roster, most don't feature in Hansi Flick's plans for the upcoming season.
With Ter Stegen expected to move on in the summer, and the club looking for a more competitive second-choice goalkeeper to succeed Szczesny, attention has turned to a familiar La Liga face: Real Sociedad's Alex Remiro.
According to Santi Ovalle on Cadena SER, Barcelona have made their intentions clear in multiple meetings with the veteran goalkeeper's agent. The Spanish international, who is under contract with Real Sociedad until 2027, could reportedly be available for as little as €10 million—a bargain in today's market.
Remiro, however, is keeping his focus on the World Cup, one of his major career ambitions, and has yet to make any decision about his future. While a move to Camp Nou would be an attractive step for most players, the experienced shot-stopper is keen to leave Real Sociedad on good terms, not wanting to sour his legacy at the club.
Interestingly, Barcelona are also considering a longer-term play. The report suggests the club is open to waiting until 2027, when Remiro would become a free agent. This approach aligns with the Blaugrana's recent strategy of securing top talent on free transfers, though it would require patience from the fans.
For now, Remiro's signing isn't seen as an immediate priority this summer, but Barcelona have clearly signaled their interest. Whether the move happens now or in two years, the veteran goalkeeper remains firmly on their radar.
