Paris mayor scraps PSG final fan zone after police pushback. Fans hoping to watch the match on giant screens may still gather at Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain fans hoping to soak up Champions League final atmosphere in a dedicated fan zone will have to adjust their plans. Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire confirmed Monday that the proposed fan zone for the May 30 showdown against Arsenal has been scrapped, citing security concerns and a packed city calendar.

The idea was born in the euphoria of PSG's dramatic qualification in Munich, with Gregoire—a known PSG supporter—initially pushing for a central gathering spot. But the dream quickly collided with reality. The damage caused by hooligans after the Bayern match, combined with firm pushback from the police chief and Interior Ministry, made the plan untenable. The security apparatus required to safely host thousands of fans simply wasn't feasible.

"I obviously heard the reservations of the police prefecture, and I know they are also those of the Interior Minister. Reason obliges me to hear them," Gregoire admitted during a Monday press conference.

The timing couldn't be worse. That same weekend, Paris will be bursting at the seams with major events. The Stade de France will host 80,000 fans for Aya Nakamura, La Defense Arena welcomes 40,000 for Damso, Bercy packs in 16,000 for Bouss, and the Stade Francais rugby match against Bayonne at Jean-Bouin adds another layer. Throw in the Parc des Princes itself, and you have a logistical puzzle with almost no precedent.

But hope is not lost for PSG supporters. The club is expected to follow last year's model and open the Parc des Princes for a giant-screen broadcast of the final. According to the latest information, tickets for this viewing experience should be announced soon—giving fans a chance to cheer on their team together, even if the fan zone dream has been benched.
