Spring sports are underway in Arizona, and there’s plenty of activity, including college sports and a new season for Phoenix Mercury, Phoenix Rising FC and Arizona Rattlers. Here are updates on news and events happening around Arizona sports:
Grand Canyon's baseball team, down 8-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, scored five runs to walk off Arizona with a 9-8 win on Tuesday, April 28.
GCU (16-26) won the season series against UA, beating the Wildcats for the eighth time in the last 11 meetings.
It was the first walk-off of the season for the Lopes. It was the third straight season that the Lopes won the season series over the Wildcats, taking two out of three games.
Cannon Peery ripped a two-run homer to start the ninth-inning rally. Jose Lopez III and Carson Ohland followed with back-to-back doubles. A hit batter and a wild pitch moved runners to second and third.
With two outs, Griffin Cameron drove in the tying and winning runs with a single to right, setting off a celebration on Brazell Field.
