Auburn Athletics has officially kicked off a new era of its gymnastics program by naming Ryan Roberts as the program's next head coach.
Auburn announced the hiring of Roberts on Tuesday. Roberts comes to the Plains after serving as co-head coach of the Georgia Gymdogs program for two years. Before his time in Athens, he was an assistant at Alabama for four years.
“I want to thank President Roberts, John Cohen, and the search committee for this incredible opportunity and the trust to guide this program,” Roberts said in a press release. “My family and I are thrilled to now be a part of Auburn Family and have the chance to invest in this incredible community. I am very much looking forward to leading this team and working with these student-athletes, and can’t wait to get to work. War Eagle!”
Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen cited Roberts' track record of recruiting and developing gymnasts as a major reason he tabbed Roberts as the next head coach of Auburn gymnastics.
“With his demonstrated excellence in recruiting and developing high-level SEC gymnasts, Ryan Roberts is the ideal person to lead Auburn’s gymnastics program,” Cohen said. “Ryan’s professional experience makes him a great fit for Auburn. We welcome Ryan, Hanne, and their family to the Plains.”
During his time at Georgia, the program signed two top-two recruiting classes, including the 2025 class, which ranked No. 2 nationally and the No. 1 class in 2023. His efforts also led Georgia to the No. 6 overall seed in this season's NCAA Tournament, which ended with a national semifinal appearance.
Roberts takes over for Jeff Graba, who mutually parted ways with the program after 16 seasons on the Plains.
