This Hunter Brown rumor makes sense and is likely good news for Astros fans.

The Houston Astros may be facing a challenging season, but a recent trade rumor involving their star pitcher Hunter Brown is giving fans a reason to breathe easier.

As the trade deadline approaches, speculation is swirling around which Astros players might be on the move. Names like Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Peña, Christian Walker, and Isaac Paredes have all been mentioned as potential trade chips. But the biggest question has been about Hunter Brown—the team's Cy Young-caliber ace.

According to a report from CBS Sports' Dayn Perry, Brown is indeed a trade candidate, but not in the way you might expect. Perry suggests that trading Brown is actually the least likely scenario for Houston.

"This one seems the least likely to happen," Perry writes. "Another consideration is that Brown is under team control through the 2028 season, and trading him would indeed be a signal that the Astros don't intend to return to relevance during that span."

That's exactly the kind of news Astros fans want to hear. Despite Brown's recent shoulder injury, he would have drawn significant interest on the trade market. But Perry's analysis effectively shuts the door on that possibility—and for good reason.

While some have suggested Houston could conduct a massive fire sale and hit the reset button, that would be a disastrous move for the franchise. Both Brown and Alvarez are under club control through 2028, making them the cornerstones of the Astros' future. Unless something catastrophic derails the team's ability to contend by then, dealing either player makes little sense.

After 2028, the conversation might change, and a rebuild could become a realistic option. But for now, the Astros should hold steady. This rumor, while just speculation, reinforces what many fans already believe: Hunter Brown and Yordan Alvarez aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
