When Ashok Sharma first picked up a cricket ball as a child, he had one dream: to bowl at 150 kilometers per hour. Now, as a 23-year-old pace sensation for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, that dream has become a stunning reality.
Sharma has emerged as the breakout star of the tournament, consistently clocking speeds above 150 kph and sending shivers down the spines of batsmen. His thunderbolt of 154.2 kph against Rajasthan Royals' Dhruv Jurel stands as the fastest delivery of IPL 2026—and one of the quickest ever recorded in the league's history.
"As a child, watching someone bowl 150 kph, I would dream that someday I would do the same," Sharma shared in a recent interview. "I used to watch Brett Lee and Dale Steyn and wonder how much effort they put in, how fast they bowled, and how it felt. Now I feel it myself."
For any fast bowler, touching the 150 kph mark is a milestone. Sharma calls it "bahut badi baat"—a very big deal. "Whoever starts bowling fast dreams of bowling 150 one day. I had the same dream, which I have now achieved. But at the moment, my dream is to help the team win," he added with the humility that's quickly making him a fan favorite.
Behind this raw pace lies a carefully crafted discipline, shaped by none other than Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra. The former India fast bowler has been instrumental in refining Sharma's game, focusing on the fundamentals before flashy variations.
"He always stands behind the bowler during training. He talks about reading a batsman," Sharma explained. "As a fast bowler, the first thing he has told us is that we should be able to bowl Test-match lengths. He has always stressed how important it is to have control over pitching on that length consistently, six balls in a row. Only after that, he says, can we work on the yorkers, slower ones, and master them."
It's a lesson that echoes the greats: speed is thrilling, but control wins matches. And for Sharma, combining both is what will take him—and the Gujarat Titans—all the way.
