Arsenal's Fabio Vieira is making headlines again, but not necessarily for the reasons the Gunners might hope. The Portuguese playmaker, currently on loan at Hamburg SV (HSV), delivered a stunning winner against Frankfurt over the weekend, continuing his impressive run of form. However, despite his heroics, German media reports suggest HSV is unlikely to trigger the €22 million buy option in his loan agreement.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the 59th minute, Vieira showcased his class. After exchanging passes with former Arsenal teammate Albert Sambi Lokonga, he burst into the box, controlled a lofted pass from Albert Gronbaek with his chest, and slotted home a low finish to make it 2-1. The goal secured all three points for HSV, effectively ending any relegation fears as they now sit eight points clear of the drop zone with just two matches left.

Given his stellar performances this season—12 goal contributions across all competitions—it’s easy to see why HSV might want to keep him. But there’s a catch. According to German outlet Bild, the club can only offer a fraction of the €22 million buy option, leaving Vieira's future uncertain. Unless serious negotiations take place, a permanent move looks unlikely.

For Arsenal, that might not be a bad thing. Vieira has proven his worth against top Bundesliga sides, scoring or assisting against six of the league’s top eight teams, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig. The only exceptions? Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg—coincidentally, HSV’s final two opponents. With that kind of form, the 23-year-old should attract plenty of interest this summer. HSV’s financial constraints are their problem, not Arsenal’s.
