The Minnesota Timberwolves are heading into their second-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs with a mix of momentum and uncertainty. After a gritty 110-98 Game 6 victory over the Denver Nuggets on April 30, the Wolves advanced for the third straight year—but they did so without several key contributors.

Jaden McDaniels stepped up in a big way, posting 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge. It was a performance that showcased the depth and resilience of a team that has learned to thrive under pressure. But now, with the Spurs series set to tip off on Monday, May 4, the big question is: Who’s coming back?

On Friday, May 1, ESPN’s Shams Charania delivered an update on Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves’ leading scorer at 28.8 points per game. “I’m told Ant Man will be out to start the second-round series,” Charania reported. “This is a multi-week, minimum two-week injury, so you’re looking at least a few games.” Edwards suffered a hyperextended knee and bone bruise during Game 4 of the first round—the same game that saw backcourt mate Donte DiVincenzo lost for the season with a torn Achilles.

The good news? The Timberwolves are optimistic about getting Edwards back at some point during the series. Known for his quick recovery and high pain tolerance, the four-time All-Star has earned the nickname “The Wolverine” from teammates. “Anthony Edwards is a very quick healer,” Charania added, giving fans a glimmer of hope.

In Edwards’ absence, Ayo Dosunmu has stepped up in a major way. The guard, who started only nine games during the regular season, exploded for 43 points in Game 4. He’s currently dealing with a calf injury, but with three days of rest before Monday’s opener, he’s expected to be back in action. Reserve forward Kyle Anderson, who missed Game 6 with an illness, should also be ready to go.

As for Edwards, the target return dates appear to be Minnesota’s first home game on May 8 or Game 4 on May 10. Until then, the Timberwolves will rely on their next-man-up mentality—a mindset that has already carried them past one of the toughest tests in the playoffs.
