"I coached Antawn Jamison and Danny Green in Cleveland for 26 games and 21 games," Malone recalled. "Think about that... All these years later, Antawn remembers not just my X's and O's, but how I carried myself and held guys accountable. That stuck with him."

That connection resonated deeply when Hansbrough, the embodiment of Carolina toughness, approached him. "Tyler Hansbrough grabbed me by the arm and said, 'I'm so happy you're here. I know we're going to play hard and we're going to be tough.' That means the world to me," Malone said.

Jamison elaborated on Malone's unique ability from their time together with the Cleveland Cavaliers, praising his skill in managing a locker room. "He's an unbelievable coach who knows the game and is very relatable," Jamison stated. "He was one of the guys who could talk to LeBron [James] and get him on board. A coach has to be able to do that with his superstars and the last guy on the bench, and he could do that."
