Rory McIlroy mounted an impressive comeback at the PGA Championship on Friday, carding a flawless second-round 67 at Aronimink to secure his spot for the weekend. After a disappointing opening round of 74 on Thursday, the four-time major winner looked like a different golfer on day two, navigating the demanding course without a single bogey to finish three-under-par.

But while McIlroy's game improved dramatically, his mood didn't seem to follow suit. In a surprising turn, the Northern Irishman appeared more frustrated after his bogey-free round than he did after Thursday's struggle, where he stumbled with four consecutive bogeys to close out the day.

The source of his irritation? The course setup at Aronimink. Despite being in contention after two rounds, McIlroy didn't hold back in his post-round press conference, criticizing the PGA of America's layout and calling it "not great."

"I think a bunched leaderboard like this is a sign of a not great setup," McIlroy said. "It hasn't really enabled anyone to separate themselves. It's easy to make a ton of pars, hard to make birdies, and not that it's hard to make bogey, but it feels like bogey's the worst score you're going to shoot on any one hole. There's not a lot of hazards."

He added, "I've always felt like really good setups start to spread the field a bit, and not great setups sort of bring everyone together. I feel like that's what's happened the last two days."

McIlroy's comments sparked a firestorm on social media, with golf fans quickly labeling him as "spoiled" and "pathetic." Many argued that a tight leaderboard is a sign of competitive golf, not poor design, and that the course is simply challenging everyone equally. For a player known for his explosive talent and high standards, this latest critique has left some wondering if McIlroy is looking for excuses rather than solutions.
