The Los Angeles Angels finally snapped their seven-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, edging the New York Mets 4-3 in ten innings at home. Oswald Peraza delivered the game-winning hit—a bases-loaded, two-out single—to give the Halos a much-needed walk-off victory.
The Angels struck first against Mets starter Nolan McLean, a surprising turn given their recent offensive struggles. Jorge Soler and Nolan Schanuel opened the inning with singles, putting runners in scoring position. Jo Adell followed with an RBI single that scored Schanuel. Though Soler was thrown out at third before the run crossed, the Mets surprisingly did not challenge the play, and the run stood.
The Mets answered in the third on an RBI infield single by Bo Bichette, but the Angels regained control in the fourth. Vaughn Grissom laced a two-run single, extending the lead to 3-1. Angels starter Reid Detmers held the Mets at bay until the seventh, when New York rallied. Mark Vientos doubled, Marcus Semien singled, and newly acquired Andy Ibanez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Tyrone Taylor then singled home Semien, tying the game at 3-3.
The score remained deadlocked through nine innings, setting the stage for extra-inning drama. Angels reliever Ryan Zeferjahn kept the Mets off the board in the top of the tenth, thanks to some good fortune. After Brett Baty reached on a catcher’s interference call, Bichette grounded into a double play, erasing two runners. The Angels then intentionally walked Juan Soto, but Francisco Alvarez couldn’t bring home the ghost runner from second, flying out to end the threat.
In the bottom of the tenth, the Angels loaded the bases. Soler walked, and Adell singled, moving ghost runner Adam Frazier to third. Mets reliever Austin Warren got two quick outs, but Peraza stepped up and delivered a clutch single to center field, scoring Frazier and igniting a celebration at the plate. Zeferjahn earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings of relief.
Peraza was the offensive star, collecting three hits and the game-winning RBI. Adell also had a three-hit night with an RBI of his own. Meanwhile, Mike Trout continued his impressive comeback, adding two hits and a walk, raising his average to .256 and his on-base percentage to a solid .341.
