An incredible pitching outing by Georgia-bound Kynzee Anderson accentuated by an incredible hitting performance from Loren Sivils, both of which were supported by Cavalier baseball rowdies outside the leftfield wall, spelled doom for visiting Fisher on Tuesday afternoon in the LHSAA Select Division III second-round contest.
Anderson, who will be pitching in the SEC next season, came within an out of a perfect game, albeit just three innings, as the Lady Cavaliers (34-1) rolled 15-0 behind three home runs and eight RBIs from Sivils, who seems to have big games anytime the media shows up to see her team perform. She has 14 on the season for a team that’s hammered 62 mostly out of Calvary’s arena.
“She came in with an arch so I focused on watching it and making sure it was a strike,” Sivils said. “Our energy was up and definitely the win was good. What really carried our energy was the baseball boys out in the outfield. That brought a lot of energy. We were excited.”
Anderson, who didn’t need much verbal support, also delivered a home run while keeping the visitors off-balance with a variety of pitches, according to catcher Mallory Carver, who walked three times. With two outs in the bottom of the third, Anderson gave up a single to Zowie Usie, but finished with nine strikeouts in the three innings.
“Tonight, we focused on the backdoor and the screwball,” Carver said. “I needed to be patient tonight and I got three walks. So, I guess I was patient.”
The five-time defending state champions will host Bunkie at 5 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.
North DeSoto 15, DeRidder 0: Senior Carsyn Curtis went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs as the Lady Griffins rolled in the LHSAA Non-Select Division II contest in Stonewall. Macie Cameron pitched a no-hitter while collecting two hits and four RBIs, while Leighton Ross scored three runs and posted three RBIs. The top-seeded Lady Griffins advance to play Pearl River in the quarterfinals later this week.
