For the seventh time since 2018, American Heritage-Delray girls lacrosse has punched its ticket to the state championship game. The Stallions delivered a commanding performance in the Class 1A state semifinals, defeating Community School of Naples 12-3 to set up yet another highly anticipated rematch against Lake Highland Prep.
From the opening whistle, it was clear that Heritage-Delray came to play. Florida State commit Madison Vargas wasted no time, scoring on the Stallions' very first possession to set the tone. Brown commit Jamie Woelfel followed suit minutes later, and the offensive showcase was just getting started.
Penn State commit Hali Horvath and Columbia commit Lily Svirky joined the party around the crease, helping Heritage-Delray build a commanding 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Stallions' attack was relentless, with Svirky in particular applying tremendous pressure on the net, notching four goals in the first half alone.
"It's looking like a carousel out there with these rotations, and the Stallions cannot be stopped," announcers on the NFHS Network broadcast exclaimed.
Despite the early onslaught, Community School of Naples refused to back down. University of Louisville commit Sophia Dapper made several impressive saves in net to keep the Seahawks within striking distance, matching the excellence of Heritage-Delray's Ashley Egbert on the other end. Dapper's performance was especially noteworthy given her team's youth—12 underclassmen donned black for Community School on Friday afternoon.
"We've grown up and become a unit," Dapper said earlier this week. "There's so many new girls who've joined, and now we're all just sort of formed as one, and we're one big family."
The Seahawks' resilience showed late in the second quarter when they finally found the back of the net in the final minute of the half. But by then, the damage was done, and Heritage-Delray took a daunting 10-1 lead into the break—a gap that proved insurmountable.
Now, the Stallions turn their attention to the championship game, where they'll face Lake Highland Prep in a rematch that carries extra weight. Last year, a tying goal was controversially called back, and American Heritage fell in the Class 1A title match. This time around, they'll be looking for redemption—and a seventh state title to add to their growing legacy.
