Amad Diallo's time at Manchester United may be coming to an unexpected crossroads. The Ivorian winger, once hailed as one of the brightest young talents at Old Trafford, has seen his form dramatically dip since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in January—and now, a Premier League rival is circling.

Since scoring against AFC Bournemouth back in December, Diallo has failed to register a single goal contribution for the Red Devils. That drought is especially troubling given that he has been deployed as United's first-choice right winger, a role that demands both creativity and end product. With Bryan Mbeumo often operating as a false nine, the 23-year-old should be chipping in with assists if not goals—but instead, his performances have fallen well below par.

The last two games have been particularly telling. Diallo was hooked at half-time against Brentford, and a costly error in the win over Liverpool has opened many eyes to his ongoing struggles. There is now a genuine debate at Old Trafford: should United cut their losses and move on, or show patience and trust that he will rediscover his spark?

While the Red Devils ponder that question, Sunderland are watching closely—and they have plans of their own. Diallo spent a memorable loan spell at the Stadium of Light, where he was a massive hit, scoring 14 goals and adding three assists in 39 appearances for the Black Cats. That stint left a lasting impression, and according to the i paper, Sunderland are ready to make their move if United give any hint that he might be available.

"If United's confidence ever wavered… Sunderland would make their pitch," the report states. "Still considered a dream signing by key figures in the club's recruitment department, the Black Cats have tried several times to re-sign Diallo since that first loan spell. Every time Manchester United have knocked them back, but interest endures."

For now, Sunderland are waiting on a signal from United before they strike. Whether that signal comes remains to be seen—but with Diallo's form in question and a Premier League suitor ready to pounce, the next few weeks could define his future in English football.
