Miami has been kind to City Kickboxing fighters in recent years. Alexander Volkanovski claimed the vacant featherweight title last year at the Kaseya Center, defeating Diego Lopes in front of a lively crowd.

Miami continues to be a city of champions for the City Kickboxing gym. Last year, Alexander Volkanovski captured the vacant featherweight title there, and this past weekend, his teammate Carlos Ulberg followed suit, stopping Jiri Prochazka to claim the UFC light heavyweight crown at the same venue.

However, the triumphant night was shadowed by an injury to the new champion. Ulberg has announced he is heading to Las Vegas for scans to assess the damage sustained during his title fight.

Fellow champion and teammate Alexander Volkanovski, however, believes he already has the diagnosis. After reviewing the fight footage, 'The Great' is confident Ulberg suffered an ACL tear, an injury notorious for its lengthy recovery timeline in combat sports.

"You need six months post-surgery… I could have bet on it," Volkanovski stated on his YouTube channel. "It’s just typical of that motion… That’s typical ACL. I’ll be very surprised if it’s not."

Volkanovski speculated the injury could be complicated further because Ulberg had to continue fighting after the initial damage. This assessment aligns with early analyses from sports medicine experts, painting a picture of a potentially extended layoff for the new champion.

Not everyone in the camp shares this grim outlook. City Kickboxing head coach Eugene Bareman has offered a more optimistic perspective, suggesting the injury may not be as severe based on how Ulberg was moving after the event.

As the MMA world awaits the official medical verdict, the focus shifts to Ulberg's resilience and the challenging road to recovery that often follows a career-defining victory.
