Alex Cora thanked Red Sox employees for their contributions during his tenure with the team.

In a heartfelt email to the entire Boston Red Sox organization, former manager Alex Cora expressed gratitude and a touch of regret following his surprising dismissal. The email, obtained by MassLive.com, reveals a manager who left with grace, thanking employees for their hard work while acknowledging his disappointment at not reaching the ultimate goal.

"I wanted to take a moment before heading home to thank you," Cora wrote. "Being part of this organization has meant a great deal to me. As a player and as a manager. Like I always tell free agents, I'm glad my kids grew up here. It's unique, special and magical."

The firing came as a shock to the baseball world, as Cora—who led the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2018—was widely respected despite the team's rough 10-17 start. In his email, he showed class by supporting the organization's decision: "I respect the direction the organization is taking. A lot of talented people will help to accomplish the ultimate goal, having another duck boat parade."

Cora also shared a personal note, balancing his new role as a full-time parent with his competitive spirit: "We are happy to have the time to be full time parents, that's the truth, but also we are disappointed that we didn't finish the job." He closed with a reminder to cherish Fenway Park: "Keep showing up everyday and don't take the Fenway experience for granted, your working place is the best in the world."

Interestingly, reports emerged that the Philadelphia Phillies reached out to Cora about their vacant managerial position after firing Rob Thomson, but he turned down the opportunity. For Red Sox fans, Cora's gracious exit—and his refusal to immediately jump to a rival—adds a layer of bittersweet nostalgia to a season already full of surprises. His legacy in Boston, much like the iconic gear fans wear to Fenway, remains one of resilience and passion for the game.
