Alex Cora thanked Red Sox employees for their contributions during his tenure with the team.

Alex Cora may have been shown the door by the Boston Red Sox, but he's leaving it wide open with nothing but gratitude.

Just days after the stunning dismissal that sent shockwaves through Major League Baseball, the former manager reportedly sent a heartfelt email to the entire Red Sox organization, thanking them for his time in Boston. According to MassLive.com, Cora's message was a class act from start to finish.

"Good morning. I wanted to take a moment before heading home to thank you. Being part of this organization has meant a great deal to me. As a player and as a manager," Cora wrote. "Like I always tell free agents, I'm glad my kids grew up here. It's unique, special and magical."

The email, obtained by the outlet, shows Cora accepting the Red Sox's decision with grace—even if he wishes things had ended differently. "We are happy to have the time to be full time parents, that's the truth, but also we are disappointed that we didn't finish the job," he admitted.

It's that competitive fire that made Cora one of the most respected managers in the game. The 2026 season started rough for Boston, with the team stumbling to a 10-17 record through 27 games. But for a skipper who led the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2018, expectations were always sky-high.

Cora made sure to recognize the people behind the scenes who make Fenway Park special. "A lot of talented people will help to accomplish the ultimate goal, having another duck boat parade. Thank you for the hard work, sleepless nights, professionalism and effort to help me lead this great organization," he wrote.

His parting words? A reminder to never take the Fenway experience for granted. "Keep showing up everyday and don't take the Fenway experience for granted, your working place is the best in the world."

The firing caught the baseball world off guard, especially given Cora's reputation. The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly reached out to gauge his interest in their open managerial position after firing Rob Thomson, but Cora turned down the opportunity.

For now, it seems the former manager is content to step away, grateful for the ride—even if he didn't get to finish it on his own terms.
