Returning to the top spot for the first time since 2010, the Crimson Tide brings a legendary home-field advantage and elite pitching to Rhoads Stadium.

For the first time since 2010, the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team is heading into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall national seed—and honestly, this squad has earned every bit of it.

When the bracket was revealed Sunday night, Alabama locked in its 27th straight NCAA Tournament appearance while extending another incredible streak: its 21st consecutive season hosting as a top-16 national seed. In today's ever-changing college athletics landscape, that kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident.

It's the standard head coach Patrick Murphy has built in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide will host Southeastern Louisiana, Belmont, and USC Upstate at Rhoads Stadium beginning Friday, May 15. Alabama opens regional play that afternoon against USC Upstate at noon on SEC Network.

What makes this moment even bigger is how dominant Alabama has been all season. This isn't a team that snuck into the top spot late—the Tide has looked like one of the best teams in the country from opening day. Whether it was huge SEC wins, dominant pitching performances, or timely hitting, this group kept answering every challenge thrown its way.

Think back to that early-season trip to Tallahassee when Alabama beat Florida State twice. Looking back now, that feels like the moment this team truly realized what it could become. According to Murphy, that series gave the team a jolt of confidence, and you could see it grow from there week after week.

Murphy spoke after the selection show about never taking these moments for granted—and that says everything about why Alabama softball continues to thrive. So many programs across the country would celebrate just making the NCAA Tournament. Alabama celebrates hosting because that has become the expectation.

But even with all the success, Murphy still approaches it with gratitude and appreciation. That mindset has helped keep this program elite for nearly three decades. Now, with the No. 1 overall seed and a legendary home-field advantage at Rhoads Stadium, the Crimson Tide is ready for another unforgettable postseason run.
