The Toronto Marlies were all over the Rochester Americans as the Leafs AHL affiliate team beat the Sabres AHL affiliate team 5-0 in Game One of the First Round Series of the North Division in the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs.
It was an all-around effort as not only did Toronto pour 32 shots on goal on the Amerks, but also just gave up only 16 shots to the visitors. The Marlies outshooting the Americans is an understatement as Toronto put up double-digit shots every period while the most shots Rochester could put up in a single period was eight.
The Marlies had shutout the Amerks in shots until the 8:40 mark of the first period when Rochester's Anton Wahlberg drove the puck at goalie Artur Akhtyamov in the Amerks first power play. By that time, Toronto had outshot Rochester 6-0 including converting one of those shots into a goal.
The Amerks found themselves on the power play four times and eight of their 16 shots came in those man-advantage situations.
AHL All-Star Akhtyamov had no issues registering a shutout in the win and Vinni Lettieri was the hero on offence, registering a hattrick in the win.
