HATTIESBURG – Kossuth found its offensive rhythm just in time to keep its championship hopes alive. After a frustrating 3-0 shutout on Wednesday where they managed just three hits, the Aggies roared back in spectacular fashion on Thursday morning, pounding out 16 hits to defeat West Marion 11-1 in six innings and force a decisive Game 3 in the MHSAA Class 3A state title series at Southern Miss.

The Aggies showed no signs of panic following their Game 1 struggles. Senior Chloe Clement explained, "We put ourselves in a hole last series, and we knew we could come back. We can do it again tomorrow, too. We always put ourselves in holes, but we dig ourselves out so good for some reason." That resilience has become a hallmark for this team, echoing their North finals comeback when they were also shut out in Game 1 by Nettleton.

Clement was the catalyst for the offensive explosion, delivering four hits and three RBIs. Madeline Rhodes matched her intensity with two hits and four RBIs, while five Aggies total recorded multiple hits in the breakout performance. The team's ability to produce with two outs proved crucial, as eight of their 11 runs came in those clutch situations.

West Marion struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Kossuth's response was immediate and emphatic. The second inning saw five hits, including a run-scoring single from Alana Lewis and a two-RBI knock from Rhodes, sparking a four-run rally. Carsyn Rinehart's RBI single in the fourth extended the lead to 5-1, and the floodgates opened in the fifth when both Clement and Rhodes delivered two-run singles to make it 9-1.

Head coach Brandon Bobo credited the turnaround to smart adjustments at the plate. "We made the right adjustments, hit the ball the other way some, and just started squaring the ball up, hitting it where they wasn't," he said.

While the offense grabbed headlines, Clement's performance in the circle was equally dominant. After allowing the early run, she retired 13 of the next 14 batters, surrendering just one hit in the game. She has been nearly untouchable all series, allowing only three hits across both games. "Same thing I've seen from Chloe for the last three years," Bobo said. "She gives you everything she's got on that mound, and we're right behind her making plays."

Center fielder Emma Franks anchored that defense with five putouts, drawing praise from her pitcher. "I love our defense," Clement added. "As a pitcher in the circle, it's very, very, very nice having some defense behind you."

The stage is now set for a winner-take-all Game 3 at 10 a.m. Friday. If the Aggies' history of bouncing back from adversity is any indication, fans can expect another thrilling showdown. As Bobo put it, "Like I told them last week, I'll take this team with their back against the wall any day."
