The Las Vegas Aces are making moves to ensure their championship window stays wide open. While retaining their superstar core was the top priority, the front office has been busy adding crucial depth to fortify the rotation for another title run.
Losing reliable frontcourt pieces like Megan Gustafson and Kiah Stokes in free agency stung, but the Aces acted swiftly to fill the void. Their solution? A savvy one-two punch of veteran defense and proven shooting.
First, they brought in defensive anchor Brianna Turner. A former Notre Dame teammate of Jackie Young, Turner is a two-time All-Defensive Team selection known for her relentless rebounding and playoff toughness. Her experience battling the Aces in last season's intense semifinal series with Indiana only adds to her value. Team President Nikki Fargas highlighted Turner's impact, stating, "Adding another veteran presence to our frontcourt will be very beneficial... Brianna is an exceptional defender, rebounder and an even better teammate."
To complement Turner's interior presence, the Aces added sharpshooting wing Stephanie Talbot. A three-time Australian Olympian, Talbot brings valuable floor spacing with her career 35.1% shooting from deep. Her journeywoman experience across the league provides a steady, professional hand. "Steph is a versatile wing who can guard multiple positions while shooting from beyond the arc at an elite level," Fargas noted, emphasizing the perfect fit for the Aces' system.
Together, Turner and Talbot are poised to create a stable frontcourt rotation, providing essential relief for stars A’ja Wilson and NaLyssa Smith—a key concern addressed from last season.
But the Aces didn't stop there. After bolstering the wings through the draft with Janiah Barker and Jordan Obi, they made a headline-grabbing post-draft move. The team announced the signing of dynamic guard Chennedy Carter to a training camp contract, adding another layer of offensive firepower to an already stacked bench.
