The Kentucky Wildcats have hosted a number of players from the transfer portal, but one guard won't be making the trip to Lexington now.

The Kentucky Wildcats' search for backcourt firepower in the transfer portal has hit a snag. While new head coach Mark Pope has been actively hosting top prospects, a key target is now off the board.

Sharpshooting guard Cruz Davis, who was scheduled for a visit to Lexington, has instead committed to Texas Tech following his trip to Lubbock. This is a notable miss for a Wildcats squad in clear need of perimeter scoring; Davis, the reigning CAA Player of the Year, averaged 20 points per game last season and boasts a career 38% clip from three-point range.

Coach Pope and his staff must now pivot quickly to other options as they look to build their roster. The Wildcats have already hosted guards Alex Wilkins and Jalen Cox this week, with Terrence Brown set to visit on Friday. Securing a commitment from one of these remaining prospects is the next crucial step in assembling a competitive lineup for the upcoming season.
