Shane Lowry has the distinction of draining one of the more memorable putts in recent golf history.

His eight-footer for birdie on 18 at Bethpage Black last fall clinched the Ryder Cup for Team Europe, ending a dramatic, last-ditch comeback effort by Team USA that would have gone down as one of the most unlikely of all-time.

This summer, Lowry and Ryder Cup teammate Robert McIntyre will be back in the northeast, taking the course once again at the Travelers Championship.

Both players committed to the tournament on Tuesday.

“Golf on the PGA Tour is such a global game, with stars coming from everywhere. Robert is from Scotland and Shane is from Ireland, but they have captivated audiences, won tournaments all over the world and embraced the Travelers Championship. We’re excited to welcome them back to Connecticut this summer,” Travelers Executive Vice President Andy Bessette said in a release.

Lowry, 39, is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, including a major victory at the 2019 British Open. He’s currently ranked No. 35 in the Official World Golf Rankings. McIntyre, 29, is a two-time winner on tour and is ranked No. 12 in the world.

Both players join a stacked Travelers Championship field as the tournament will once again be a PGA Tour Signature Event.
