Just two weeks after making his Triple-A debut in Syracuse and 39 days after opening the season in Binghamton, he was suddenly in the big leagues, fielding questions from a dozen reporters in the Mets clubhouse. But if the moment felt overwhelming, Ewing didn't show it. "I'm confident in my ability," he said with a sheepish smile before the game. "I'm just gonna play the same game I've been playing."

Stearns also praised Ewing's maturity, noting, "He's a pretty mature kid for a young player." But he added a note of caution: "That doesn't mean this is going to go flawlessly for him."
