The New York Knicks set an NBA playoff record Thursday night by taking a 47-point halftime lead over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference first-round series. The Knicks led 83-36 at the break, after leading by as many as 51 at one point in the second quarter. It had happened twice: Cleveland led in Boston 72-31 at the break on May 19, 2017, and Indiana led the Cavaliers 80-39 at the half of game on May 11, 2025.

The New York Knicks made NBA history Thursday night, storming to a stunning 47-point halftime lead over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. The final tally at the break: 83-36, with the Knicks leading by as many as 51 points during a dominant second-quarter performance.

This wasn't just a big lead—it was a record-breaking one. The previous NBA playoff record for largest halftime advantage was 41 points, achieved twice before: by the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Boston Celtics on May 19, 2017, and by the Indiana Pacers against the Cavaliers on May 11, 2025. The Knicks shattered that mark by six points, tying for the second-largest halftime lead in the entire shot-clock era (since 1954) across both regular season and playoff games. Only the Dallas Mavericks' 50-point halftime lead over the Los Angeles Clippers on Dec. 27, 2020, stands above them.

New York's offense was equally historic. Their 83 first-half points tied for the third-highest total in NBA playoff history, joining the Dallas Mavericks' 83-point half against the Sacramento Kings on May 8, 2003. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder (87 points against Denver on May 7, 2025) and the Cleveland Cavaliers (86 points against Golden State on June 9, 2017) have scored more.

The game didn't start that way. Atlanta actually jumped out to a 9-5 lead early, thanks to a quick 9-0 run. But the Knicks responded with a devastating 43-6 surge, completely flipping the script and leaving the Hawks scrambling. For fans of the game, it was a reminder of how quickly momentum can shift—and how a team in the zone can turn a competitive series into a historic rout. Whether you're a Knicks fan or just a lover of basketball excellence, this was a night to remember.
