Gary Cahill tried his best to be positive about Chelsea today, but even he found today’s game a “hard watch.”

Gary Cahill was on Sky’s coverage of Chelsea’s humiliation against Brighton, and even our former centre back couldn’t find anything nice to say.

“I said before it was a huge game and one they needed to win and they just got totally outplayed, there are no positives you can take from that game,” Cahill said.

The former Blues defender did have sympathy for manager Liam Rosenior, who he said had been let down by his players:

“I feel somewhat for Liam, I feel the players let him down, but there are some unpleasant stats out there about Chelsea and they are some tough times ahead.

“And Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final is now pivotal for this club, but they look fragile, low on confidence, fragile and in all honesty, it was a difficult watch to be fair.”

We all feel sorry for Liam. He wasn’t ready for this, he was a terrible choice, and now he’s paying the price. The players aren’t trying, but he’s also failed to make them try.

The stats from the game which Cahill mentions are truly awful – you can see some of them here.

Tim Sherwood joked that maybe Chelsea should sign some more players from Brighton after the Seagulls did the double over the Blues.
