Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers has delivered a heartfelt tribute to departing forward Beth Mead, praising the 31-year-old as "an amazing character" whose impact stretches far beyond the pitch. After nine-and-a-half trophy-filled years with the North London club, Mead will leave the Emirates Stadium when her contract expires next month.

"I've been lucky to be part of it with Beth the last couple of years," Slegers shared during an Arsenal press conference. "She's something special on and off the pitch. There are so many sides to Beth. She brings joy and happiness to the game, energy to the team, light to the room when it's needed, and honesty when it's needed. On the pitch, her intelligence shines through in the stats—and those stats throughout her time at Arsenal have been amazing."

Mead's journey with Arsenal has been one of incredible highs and devastating lows. From lifting trophies to battling a long-term injury, and facing the heartbreaking loss of her mother, she has shown remarkable resilience. Slegers was deeply impressed by the forward's unwavering mentality through it all.

"The highs and the lows, and how she just keeps coming back—it's admirable," Slegers said. "She's gone through a lot in life, sometimes things that feel unfair. The loss of her mum, and how strong she's been, how she can still be there for others while driving the team forward and bringing energy every single day—I'm really impressed. Her resilience in setbacks and hard moments has been so inspiring."

For Slegers, working with Mead was a privilege that went beyond coaching. "Every day was joyful, even through the hard times you face as a team. She's not only been an inspiration for me, but for so many others. Who she is as a person and a player will leave a lasting mark on this club."
