Diego Moreira didn't mince words after RC Strasbourg Alsace's disappointing exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday night, calling out his teammates for a lack of desire and unity.

Rayo Vallecano arrived at the Meinau with a one-goal lead from the first leg and quickly doubled their advantage just before halftime. Strasbourg, despite a late missed penalty, managed only one other shot on target across both legs—a performance that left fans and players alike frustrated.

This exit stings even more given Strasbourg's gamble this season. The team had essentially given up on qualifying for Europe through Ligue 1 weeks ago, with manager Gary O'Neil making that difficult call. Instead, they poured everything into the cup competitions. But after falling to OGC Nice in the Coupe de France semifinals (0-2) and now crashing out of the UECL, that risk has backfired completely.

"We are disappointed, sad. We were better in the second half, but we lacked efficiency and togetherness," Moreira told Canal Plus after the match. "Rayo Vallecano deserved it. They wanted it more than us during the first leg, and during the first half tonight. We should have fought a lot more, given more, showed that we wanted it more. Not everyone had the same desire. We spoke about it in the dressing room at half-time; as a collective, we didn't turn up. We struggled to combine."

Strasbourg's path to European football is now incredibly narrow. They need to win all three of their remaining Ligue 1 matches and hope Olympique de Marseille lose both of theirs—a tall order for a team that just couldn't find the fire when it mattered most.
