Nick Nurse had a few good things to say about VJ Edgecombe's defensive heroics against Boston.

In a thrilling Game 7 showdown, the Philadelphia 76ers stormed back from a 3-0 series deficit to defeat the Boston Celtics 109-100, punching their ticket to the Eastern Conference semi-finals. While the spotlight often shines on stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey—who combined for 64 points—it was rookie VJ Edgecombe who stole the show on the defensive end, earning high praise from head coach Nick Nurse.

Edgecombe, playing with the poise of a veteran, knocked down five three-pointers and finished with 23 points. But it was his lockdown defense on Celtics guard Derrick White that truly turned the tide. White had torched Philadelphia for 19 points in the first half, including 12 from beyond the arc, leaving the Sixers scrambling for answers.

"Obviously, he was great offensively," Nurse told reporters. "But most importantly, he came out of halftime and said, 'I got White, I'm going to do better on him.'" And he did. White managed just seven points in the second half, shooting a dismal 1-of-9 from three-point range. In a game decided by nine points, every stop mattered.

Nurse emphasized the impact of Edgecombe's defensive heroics: "I know everyone sees the 23 points and 5-of-11 from deep, but those are the things that make a huge difference in a Game 7." For the Bahamian rookie, it was a statement performance that proved defense can be just as electrifying as offense—and a reminder that the Sixers' future is in good hands.
