Long-time NFL assistant coach Tom Moore hasn't retired, after all.

After 64 years, legendary NFL assistant coach Tom Moore is heading back to where it all began. At 87 years old, the offensive mastermind has decided to postpone retirement once again, returning to the University of Iowa as a senior consultant to the head coach and offensive advisor.

Moore's football journey started in Iowa City, where he played quarterback for the Hawkeyes from 1958 to 1960. He launched his coaching career there shortly after, serving as an assistant from 1961 to 1962. Now, after more than six decades in the game, he's coming full circle.

His coaching odyssey took him through Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and even the New York Stars of the WFL before he made the leap to the NFL in 1977. Over the years, Moore has been a fixture on some of the league's most iconic sidelines: 13 seasons with the Steelers, four with the Vikings, three with the Lions, and one with the Saints.

But his most defining chapter came with the Colts. Moore arrived in Indianapolis in 1998—the same year a young Peyton Manning entered the league—and served as Manning's offensive coordinator for the first 11 years of his Hall of Fame career. He later moved to senior roles with the Jets, Titans, and Cardinals (reuniting with Bruce Arians), before taking 2018 off. He then returned to work with Arians in Tampa Bay, serving as an offensive consultant from 2019 through 2025.

Moore's trophy case is as impressive as his résumé: four Super Bowl rings, including two with the Steelers (1978, 1979), one with the Colts (2006), and one with the Buccaneers (2020). Now, 64 years after leaving Iowa, the game's ultimate lifer is bringing his wisdom back to the place that started it all.
