The San Francisco 49ers have been desperately trying to come to a resolution with offensive tackle Trent Williams, as he was set to enter the final year of his contract and was looking for an extension.
The two sides reached an agreement on Monday, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Williams will sign a two-year, $50 million deal that will tie him to San Francisco through the 2027 NFL season.
Williams, 37, was an All-American at Oklahoma before Washington took him in the first round (No. 4 overall) of the 2010 NFL draft. After 10 years in Washington, the 49ers traded a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round pick for the offensive tackle.
In his career, Williams has started in 203 of the 204 games he's played in while making 12 Pro Bowls and five All-Pro teams. Despite his age, he's still one of the best offensive tackles in the league, and this deal answers one of the team's biggest questions of the offseason.
