Notre Dame adds a blue-chip EDGE from Don Bosco prep to its growing 2027 football recruiting class.

Notre Dame's recruiting momentum shows no signs of slowing down. On Friday, during a live YouTube announcement, four-star EDGE rusher Aidan O'Neil officially committed to the Fighting Irish, adding another blue-chip prospect to their growing 2027 class.

Standing at 6'5" and 240 pounds, O'Neil hails from the prestigious Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey—a program known for producing elite talent. He chose Notre Dame over finalists Kentucky and Penn State, but his offer list reads like a who's who of college football powerhouses: Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Texas, among others.

What makes O'Neil such a coveted prospect? Scouts rave about his high-effort style and ability to convert speed into power off the edge. He possesses an impressive frame with a barrel chest and massive 10.25-inch hands—tools that translate well to the next level. As a junior, he made a major leap in production, tripling his sack total from his sophomore season. He attacks with urgency, initiates contact, and shows a natural ability to dip under blocks and slide through gaps. On running plays, he's instinctive and quick to redirect. He even saw some interior looks on passing downs as an 11th grader, a versatility that could prove valuable in college as his body continues to develop.

O'Neil becomes the 11th commitment in Notre Dame's 2027 class and the first from New Jersey. The class now represents eight different states, a testament to how head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff are recruiting nationally at an elite level.

The Irish have done an exceptional job stacking talent along the defensive line, blending high school recruiting with strategic transfer portal additions. O'Neil projects as a potential three-down defensive end for a College Football Playoff contender—the kind of player who wills his way into stops and makes life difficult for opposing offenses.
