For as successful as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have been as co-owners of Wrexham AFC, the club's meteoric rise through the EFL pyramid likely wouldn't have been possible without the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham.

And now, the show is back for a fifth season. The trailer comes just in time for the most critical matches of Wrexham's first year in the EFL Championship — England's second tier of professional soccer. A promotion to the Premier League remains an actual possibility for a club that was in the non-league fifth division in 2023.

The critically acclaimed docuseries on FX, Hulu and Disney+ has been a masterclass in sports storytelling. It's turned otherwise unknown players from the fifth and fourth tiers of England soccer into household names (Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer even made cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine). It's made townspeople from a small city in North Wales into internationally known personalities.

And most of all, it's helped make the club desirable enough to attract the investment needed for a possible (and unprecedented) fourth straight promotion. You can check out the trailer below:

Wrexham's story is still a few weeks away from being complete. But the Red Dragons have a chance to make this season the best one yet for the show.

The first episode of Season 5 will air on May 14. We'll know if Wrexham is playing in the promotion play-off final by then.
