Texas A&M basketball is heating up—even in the offseason. While the court may be quiet for now, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan is already making major moves off it. He recently stepped into the spotlight at the annual Dallas Aggies Coaches Night, hosted by the Dallas A&M Club, where he joined football coach Mike Elko to share updates and rally the Aggie faithful.

For McMillan, the event was more than just a meet-and-greet. It was a chance to reflect on a whirlwind first year in Aggieland. "We didn't have a roster. We didn't have any coaches… It was wild," he admitted, before quickly shifting to gratitude. "Since then, I have gotten to meet so many great people and made so many friends."

Despite the rocky start, McMillan’s squad shattered expectations—and record books. "We broke 15 A&M records last year," he said with pride. "And we are going to break all those again next year." He highlighted the team’s defensive grit, noting, "I was proud of our defense, as small as we were."

The coach also spoke passionately about the Aggie community. "Aggies love Aggies and A&M. I am from SEC country in the middle of Alabama. The honor and tradition of being an Aggie is something I don't take lightly. It makes me proud to wear this on my shirt."

McMillan didn’t shy away from praising his fellow coach, either. "The football coach has to deal with a lot more things than I do… We lose a game, and most of y'all know about it, but everybody knows if he loses a game. The one thing I know is there could not be a better coach for Texas A&M than Mike Elko."

Looking ahead, McMillan is laser-focused on tournament success. "We are going to take that next step. We were a game away from the Sweet 16 this year, and we are going to be in that second weekend next year, trying to get the Final Four."

With the Dallas A&M Club’s support fueling the program, it’s clear that the Aggies are building something special—on and off the court.
