Georgia baseball spent time soaking up its first SEC regular season title in 18 years on Saturday night. Here's why it meant so much for the Bulldogs.

Saturday night at Foley Field wasn't just another win for Georgia baseball—it was a long-awaited coronation. After an 18-year drought, the Bulldogs finally reclaimed their throne as SEC regular season champions, and they made sure to savor every single moment.

The scene was pure celebration. Players had already stormed out of the home dugout, water bottles had been tossed in jubilation, and head coach Wes Johnson was drenched in blue sports drink courtesy of his fired-up squad. The 13-8 victory over LSU on May 9 wasn't just a win—it was a statement that Georgia baseball was back among the elite.

Twenty minutes after the final out, the freshly minted 2026 SEC champions gathered for a photo that had been 18 years in the making. They stood in front of the right field wall, where the program's seven previous SEC championship seasons were listed—the last one dating back to 2008. Above them, the video board flashed a graphic honoring this year's team as conference champions.

"Watching the program grow in such a short amount of time, it's awesome," said pitcher Paul Farley, who has been with the Bulldogs for all three seasons under Johnson and earned the win in relief Saturday. "We've got four SEC games left, and to be able to hang that up there—SEC champs already—it's amazing."

But for Farley and his teammates, this championship is just the beginning. The fifth-ranked Bulldogs (40-11, 20-6 SEC) have their sights set on something even bigger. A College World Series trip—something Georgia hasn't achieved since 2008—would be the ultimate prize. And in a best-case scenario, they could add another national championship year to the right field wall alongside the 1990 season.

"SEC champs is great, but obviously we want to do bigger and better things," Farley said, already looking ahead.

It was a particularly sweet moment for Johnson, who served as LSU's pitching coach during their 2023 College World Series run. Now, he's building something special in Athens. "It's massive," Johnson said of the championship. "Anytime you can win this league, man, it's so hard. Then win it outright. It's something you want to check off on your list of things you've ever accomplished. It's 10 weekends of just meat house grinding."

The celebration may have been for the SEC title, but the message from Georgia baseball was clear: they're not done yet. This team has championship pedigree, and they're wearing it proudly.
