LSJ girls athlete of week winner has doubled her home run total from 2025 with strong spring for Hornets.

There's something special happening in Williamston this spring, and her name is Shea O'Neil. The junior first baseman for the Hornets has taken her game to another level, and the results have been nothing short of spectacular.

After two solid seasons on varsity, O'Neil set a bold goal for herself: earn all-state honors. If her recent performance is any indication, she's well on her way. O'Neil has already doubled her home run total from last season, going from four in 2025 to eight through mid-May. Her batting average? A sizzling .542.

But it's not just the numbers—it's how she's getting them. Over one unforgettable week, O'Neil launched six home runs, including two multi-homer games that had fans and teammates alike shaking their heads in disbelief.

The highlight came on May 5 against St. Johns, when O'Neil did something most players only dream about: she hit two home runs in the same inning. First, a two-run shot. Then, with the bases loaded, a grand slam. She followed that up two days later against Lansing Catholic with back-to-back homers—another grand slam and a three-run blast.

"It was kind of unreal," O'Neil said. "Every time I went up to bat, it was an unreal experience. I just wanted to do something good for my team, and I hit a home run. Then I came back with the bases loaded and hit another. It was an out-of-body experience."

So what's behind the power surge? O'Neil credits her offseason dedication. "I was really trying to work on getting better," she said. "I've always tried to progress my numbers, so to be able to double my home runs with the season still going is amazing. It's hard work and focusing on the little things."

Her coach, Lindsey McKeever, has noticed a transformation. O'Neil has emerged as a leader both at the plate and in the field, and her hot streak has helped Williamston win seven of its last 10 games. For a player who set her sights on all-state honors, this is exactly the kind of stretch that turns goals into reality.

Whether you're a young player looking for inspiration or just a fan of great softball, Shea O'Neil's story is a reminder that hard work and confidence can lead to something truly special. And with the season far from over, the best may be yet to come.
