'Not all players are happy': Ex-India cricketer drops explosive claim on Gautam Gambhir

Former India cricketer Atul Wassan has raised concerns about the Indian team's dressing room atmosphere under head coach Gautam Gambhir. Wassan suggests that not all players are comfortable with Gambhir's intense and uncompromising style. He hinted that some cricketers feel sidelined despite the team's recent successes. This comes amid significant changes in the Indian squad, including retirements and captaincy shifts.

The Indian cricket team's dressing room might not be as harmonious as it appears on the surface, according to former India pacer Atul Wassan. In a candid revelation, Wassan has raised concerns about the team atmosphere under new head coach Gautam Gambhir, suggesting that not all players are comfortable with his intense, no-nonsense approach.

Speaking on a recent YouTube show, Wassan didn't hold back. "I am sure that all the players cannot be in a happy place. Somebody will be sleeping on needles," he said, highlighting the challenges that come with Gambhir's strong personality and uncompromising style. Wassan, who previously served as a Delhi selector during a controversial period in Gambhir's domestic career, hinted that personal likes and dislikes are inevitable when dealing with such a commanding figure.

While Wassan stopped short of naming names, he dropped a significant hint that a few players feel sidelined under Gambhir's leadership. "I know 1-2 of them; they won't say it openly. Everyone knows what's happening," he added, suggesting that the current success in white-ball cricket might be masking underlying tensions. His message was clear: winning solves everything, but if results start slipping, the criticism will follow.

This isn't the first time Wassan and Gambhir's paths have crossed controversially. During Wassan's tenure as a Delhi selector, Gambhir was removed as Delhi captain in a move that sparked significant debate. Gambhir later claimed he wasn't properly informed about the decision, adding fuel to the fire.

Gambhir took over as India's head coach on July 10, 2024, replacing Rahul Dravid. Since then, the team has seen major changes, including key retirements and captaincy shifts. While the results on the field have been promising, Wassan's comments raise an important question: Is the dressing room truly united, or are cracks beginning to show beneath the surface?

For now, the team's winning run keeps the noise at bay. But as Wassan wisely noted, in a team sport, it's the coach's way or the highway—until the losses start piling up.
