Former Newcastle United defender John Anderson believes the club has "no need to sell" Anthony Gordon this summer, despite Eddie Howe stating he is "looking to the future" after not bringing the 25-year-old off the bench in consecutive games. "Well, people jump straight on the bandwagon when managers say that line, don't they?" Anderson said on BBC Radio Newcastle. There has also been talk around Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle United fans can breathe a sigh of relief—former defender John Anderson is confident the club won't be forced to part ways with star winger Anthony Gordon this summer. Despite recent comments from manager Eddie Howe about "looking to the future," and Gordon being left on the bench for two straight games, Anderson insists there's no fire sale brewing at St. James' Park.

"People jump straight on the bandwagon when managers say that line, don't they?" Anderson said on BBC Radio Newcastle. "But the fact is, if the club doesn't get the right amount of money for Anthony Gordon, they don't have to sell him."

The 25-year-old England international still has four years left on his contract, which gives the Magpies significant leverage in any transfer negotiations. "It isn't as if all of a sudden the club is having to settle for getting what they can for the boy," Anderson added.

The conversation around potential departures doesn't stop with Gordon, though. Anderson noted that other squad members could also be subject to speculation, including Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali. However, he pointed out that Livramento's injury history might complicate any potential move.

"Obviously, one or two players are going to have to leave," Anderson acknowledged. "Although there will be money available, the club are still going to have to generate funds from player sales if they are looking to strengthen before the beginning of next season."

For Newcastle supporters, the key takeaway is clear: Gordon won't be sold on the cheap. With a long contract and the club's improved financial standing under their Saudi-backed ownership, the Magpies are in a position of strength—a far cry from the days when they had to accept cut-price deals for their best talent.
