'More change the better' - Edwards calls for big summer overhaul

Wolves boss Rob Edwards has told BBC Radio WM that he "cannot accept" the manner of his team's 3-0 defeat to Brighton, adding that there "wasn't a lack of effort" but it was more a case of not being "at it and on it" at Amex Stadium. The club are now without an away win in 20 Premier League matches (D5 L15), their worst run since a 23-game stretch between April 2003 and August 2004. "You can't start a Premier League game like that," Edwards explained.

Wolves boss Rob Edwards didn't mince words after his side's 3-0 drubbing at Brighton, telling BBC Radio WM he "cannot accept" how his team started the match. While insisting there "wasn't a lack of effort," Edwards made it clear the real issue was a lack of mental sharpness at the Amex Stadium.

The defeat extends Wolves' miserable away run to 20 Premier League matches without a win (D5 L15)—their worst such stretch since a 23-game skid between April 2003 and August 2004. For a club with a proud history, that statistic stings.

"You can't start a Premier League game like that," Edwards explained. "We got the throw-in from the kick-off but we didn't play it forward and we played it into Brighton's unbelievable press, so before we knew it we were 1-0 down. We hadn't woken up or kicked into any sort of gear for the second goal from the corner. It was shocking. People weren't doing their jobs which isn't good."

To his credit, Edwards acknowledged the quality gap between the sides. "I can accept losing a game against a team like this because we know they are light years ahead of us at the moment, but I cannot accept us giving them a start like that." He also defended his players as human beings who can't be controlled "with joysticks out there," but stressed that crossing the white line demands accountability.

Looking ahead, Edwards didn't shy away from the need for major changes this summer. "There will be. There needs to be. I don't think the group that we have at the moment will be good enough to compete in the league that we are going into." Drawing on his experience with relegation battles, he added a stark conclusion: "I've learned probably the more change the better, if you can. It will be important."

For Wolves fans, the message is clear—this squad needs a serious reset. And for those of us who love the game's unpredictability, it's a reminder that sometimes a fresh start is the only way forward.
