Leeds United fans, get ready to breathe a sigh of relief. Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix is so confident in the Whites securing their Premier League safety this Friday against Burnley that he'd "bet his house" on it.
After a heartbreaking FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea on Sunday, Leeds now turn their full attention to the league—and the stakes couldn't be higher. A win at Elland Road under the Friday night lights would all but cement their top-flight status for another season.
"It'd be great to win against Burnley, season over sort of thing under the lights," Rix said on the Don't Go To Bed Just Yet podcast. "But a point, like what we have been accumulating, we have just got to keep on doing that. I don't want to get drawn into it, but I can just see everyone getting all the points."
Fellow podcaster Jonny Buchan added some crucial context: "A win would take Leeds nine points clear of Tottenham. Spurs would have four games left to play, they're on the road this weekend at Aston Villa. All three sides below Leeds are away this weekend, which is beneficial, I think."
With the pressure mounting, the message from the panel was clear. As Adam Pope put it: "Just get it done Friday night, Leeds."
Three points against Burnley would lift Leeds to 13th place on 43 points—a position that would make their remaining fixtures a formality. For fans dreaming of another season in England's top flight, Friday night could be the moment it all comes together.
