What a day for non-league football! The North West Counties play-off final between Droylsden FC and Maghull FC delivered drama, passion, and a pitch invasion that left fans buzzing. Nearly 2,500 supporters packed into Droylsden's Butchers Arms on Saturday, creating an electric atmosphere for a match that had everything—goals, penalties, and unforgettable celebrations.

The Bloods, as Droylsden are known, edged a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout after the game ended 3-3 in regulation time. With 16 spot-kicks taken, tension was sky-high. When the final penalty hit the net, fans flooded the pitch, setting off red flares in a scene manager David Pace described as "bonkers" and "epic." "It was a crazy game—our keeper saved five penalties, and we missed four," Pace told the BBC. "The fans were amazing and got us over the line. They've been unbelievable."

Playing in the 10th tier of English football, this was a massive occasion for both clubs. Pace even noted that the lack of Premier League games in Manchester that day helped draw the crowd—a testament to how community clubs can shine when the spotlight is on them. For just £7 admission (£5 concessions), fans got a spectacle worthy of any top-flight final.

However, the celebrations weren't without incident. Greater Manchester Police confirmed one arrest after minor scuffles between rival supporters. "A small number of individuals were involved in disorder both inside and outside the ground," a spokesperson said, adding that an investigation is underway. Still, the force acknowledged that "the majority of fans enjoyed the game and made their way home safely."

Droylsden FC, known for their iconic red kits, thanked supporters and volunteers in a heartfelt message: "We couldn't do it without you." For fans of grassroots football, this was a reminder of the raw emotion and community spirit that makes the beautiful game so special—whether you're watching from the stands or wearing your club's colors with pride.
