Sean McVay has built an impressive resume and coaching tree during his decade at the helm in L.A.

Sean McVay's name is synonymous with offensive innovation and success in the NFL. Since taking over the Los Angeles Rams a decade ago, the now-40-year-old has crafted an impressive legacy that includes a Super Bowl LVI victory. But beyond the play-calling genius, there are some fascinating layers to his career that even dedicated fans might find surprising.

First, consider his staying power. Despite being one of the league's youngest head coaches, McVay is currently tied with Kyle Shanahan for the second-longest active tenure with a single team, trailing only Andy Reid. This remarkable consistency at the helm in Los Angeles highlights the stability and vision he has brought to the franchise.

His influence extends far beyond the Rams' facility, however. McVay has cultivated one of the most prolific coaching trees in modern football. The next two longest-tenured head coaches after him, Zac Taylor of the Bengals and Matt LaFleur of the Packers, both served under McVay. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell is another top-ten tenured coach who learned from McVay, proving his ability to develop leadership that shapes the entire league.

Perhaps the most unique fact is the family atmosphere he's fostered on his staff. McVay is believed to be the only head coach in NFL history to have employed both brothers (Matt and Mike LaFleur as offensive coordinators) and a father-son duo (Aaron and Zak Kromer on the offensive line). This extends to his own football lineage; his grandfather, John McVay, was the architect of the 49ers' dynasty. Even Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula is part of this legacy, as the grandson of legendary coach Don Shula—meaning their grandfathers faced off in Super Bowl XIX.
