The Alabama running back didn’t have the senior season many expected from the former high end recruit. He was injured on and off for most of the season, and the Tide’s run game was mostly nonexistent due to some combination of blocking, playcalling, and RB play. Still, Jam showed enough over the course of his career to get himself drafted.
Before winning the starting job in 2024, he was often used as the RB3 for Alabama the year before, sticking to change-of-pace plays like jet sweeps and swing passes to utilize his speed. Once it was his turn to step up to be the starter, Jam added weight, and that never quite seemed to complement his game. He has elite acceleration and very good top end speed – and that really showed up multiple times over his career on, funnily enough, wheel routes in the passing game. He’s an excellent receiver and a generally decent pass blocker too, so his main shot in the NFL should be coming in as a passing downs back primarily. If used correctly, I think he could wind up having better production in an NFL scheme built for having some rushing stats as opposed to the scheme he was in at Alabama.
