The Oklahoma City Thunder are enjoying another mini-break after sweeping their second straight playoff series, but while the team rests up before the 2026 Western Conference Finals, the front office is hard at work. With the 2026 NBA draft lottery now in the books, the Thunder's future is looking even brighter—and that's saying something for a team with the league's best record and championship aspirations.

Thanks to a savvy stockpile of draft capital from earlier in the decade, OKC finds itself with three picks in this year's draft despite being the favorites to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy. The Thunder will select at No. 12 (via the LA Clippers), No. 17 (via the Philadelphia 76ers), and No. 37 (via the Dallas Mavericks)—a testament to their masterful asset management.

Following the lottery, major sports outlets released their post-lottery mock drafts, and one name keeps popping up for the Thunder: Yaxel Lendeborg. The 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward out of Michigan is projected to go to OKC at No. 12, and for good reason.

ESPN's Jeremy Woo highlights Lendeborg's standout performance during Michigan's title run, where his versatility on both ends of the floor and a scorching 52.9% three-point shooting clip over his final 11 games made him a hot commodity. "He'll be a 24-year-old rookie, which is a polarizing aspect, but he's ready for the NBA and should be a plug-and-play rotation piece," Woo notes.

Sam Vecenie of The Athletic echoes that sentiment, describing Lendeborg as "a long, physical player with two-way acumen"—exactly the kind of player the Thunder love. Vecenie also hints that OKC might look to consolidate their picks and move up in the draft class.

Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports adds that Lendeborg's 6-foot-9 frame and versatility make him a natural fit for a Thunder squad that prioritizes length and defensive intensity. Whether they stay put or trade up, one thing is clear: the Thunder are poised to add another key piece to their championship puzzle.
