It's a heartbreaking end to the season for Preußen Münster, as the club has officially been relegated from the 2. Bundesliga after just two seasons in the division. Despite a gritty 1-1 draw with Darmstadt, Alois Schwartz's side couldn't do enough to keep their second-tier status alive.

The match started with a glimmer of hope for the hosts. In the eighth minute, Münster's captain set up Shin Yamada for a clinical strike, giving the fans something to cheer about. The Japanese forward has been in fine form, finding the net in three of his last four appearances.

But Darmstadt quickly responded. Just seven minutes later, Isac Lidberg equalized with a composed finish after Charalampos Makridis was dispossessed in a dangerous area. The visitors then turned the screws, and things went from bad to worse for Münster when Jerrit Hendrix was shown a straight red card just past the half-hour mark for a challenge on Killian Corredor.

Darmstadt nearly took the lead before halftime when Corredor won a penalty, but Münster goalkeeper Johannes Schenk made amends for the earlier mistake by saving Lidberg's spot-kick. The Swedish striker missed out on a chance to move ahead in the scoring charts with what would have been his 18th goal of the campaign.

Despite a spirited second-half performance, Münster couldn't find the winner they desperately needed. The result means they become the first team relegated from this season's 2. Bundesliga, having failed to secure a victory since March 1st. For Darmstadt, the draw keeps them in fifth place, though their own form has dipped with just two points from their last six matches.
