In the final Topspiel of the 2. Bundesliga season, Miroslav Klose's Nürnberg delivered a dominant performance, handing league leaders Schalke 04 a harsh reality check. The hosts cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory, with goals from Mohamed Ali Zoma and Henri Koudossou, plus an own goal from Ron Schallenberg, leaving Schalke's title hangover fully exposed.

The match started evenly enough, but Nürnberg broke the deadlock after 19 minutes in fortunate fashion. A partially cleared free-kick fell to Rafael Lubach, whose shot was blocked by Schallenberg, only for the ball to loop over the helpless Kevin Müller and into the net. It was the kind of goal that shifts momentum, and Nürnberg seized it completely.

From there, the hosts took control. Zoma thought he had doubled the lead twice before halftime, but both efforts were ruled out for offside, much to the home crowd's frustration. Still, Nürnberg looked dangerous every time they pushed forward, and it felt like only a matter of time before they struck again.

That second goal came in first-half stoppage time through Koudossou. Fabio Gruber delivered a perfectly weighted chipped pass that released the full-back in behind Schalke's defense, and Koudossou calmly slotted past Müller at the near post to make it 2-0 heading into the break—a scoreline that flattered the visitors.

The second half began with Nürnberg nearly striking again when Lubach squandered a golden opportunity. Then, Schalke finally showed signs of life. Soufian El-Faouzi saw his effort brilliantly cleared off the line by Luka Lochoshvili, and Kenan Karaman somehow blazed the rebound over from close range with the goal gaping. It was that kind of night for the title contenders.

Zoma finally got the goal his performance deserved in the 72nd minute, this time with the offside flag staying down. Timing his run to perfection, the forward latched onto a through ball from Finn Ole Becker, controlled expertly, and rifled a strike in off the post from the edge of the area. At 3-0, the game was firmly out of sight.

Substitute Rabby Nzingoula almost added further gloss to the scoreline ten minutes from time, but Müller stood tall to deny him. For Nürnberg, it was a statement win that showcased their potential under Klose. For Schalke, it was a sobering reminder that the title race is far from over—and that even the best can have an off night.
